ICOMOS Nepal Team has made incredible progress in our work in the Wards 3,4,5, and 8 of the Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality. Over the course of two site visits, each spanning almost a month, our team has documented over 96 built heritage sites. Over the course of our field work, we trained and empowered local partners, youth and community members who are documenting more built sites every day. Those heritage sites included monastic sites, historic settlements, Chortens, and Mani walls.
By documenting these heritage sites, we’re not just keeping records—we're creating a foundation for future generations to learn about and appreciate the incredible history and spiritual legacy that these high-altitude communities hold. This effort ensures that the rich tapestry of traditions, architecture, and religious monuments in the region is safeguarded, and its continuity is ensured.
