Our project "Towards Protecting the Cultural Heritage in the High Himalayas of the Shey Phoksundo National Park of Dolpo" includes capacity building for the local authorities and youths in mapping of the built cultural heritage in the area. They will be responsible for the future protection and management of the heritage. Today we completed the basic GIS training course for the staff of the Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality, youths from Upper Dolpo and an intern at ICOMOS Nepal.
"This training has given us various tools to collect data, import the data in GIS as well as to prepare an output for reporting purpose which will be very useful for various surveys to be carried out by the Rural Municipality in future. The training has been very helpful, and we plan to continue practicing in order to master the tools we have been taught" - Dorje Tsering Gurung, SPRM
